Artist, Tony Huggins-Haig presented a magnificent picture to the Radiographers of LA7 at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

Tony painted the picture to thank the team for treating his wife, Yvonne, who is just finishing a year of Cancer treatments and operations. Inspired by Yvonne and other patients he has met during the journey Tony commented:

“All too often the NHS are criticised for poor service, long waiting times etc, but in Yvonne’s case the care has been wonderful and swift and all the health professionals concerned have been caring, helpful and professional.”

“The waiting area in Radiography is used by many patients on a daily basis and anything that helps give comfort or support in their fight with cancer is always appreciated”

“All of us as we journey through life are able to put something back and the picture was my way of doing that. Lets hope it gets other artists to donate all over the country and give our hospitals art that will lift and inspire people using and working in them.”

It is only when you are on the journey of life that you realise how important family, friendships and caring support can be. The painting depicts the big boat nearly home after a long arduous journey. That could be you with the time spent fighting this disease.

The strong powerful tug boats who have helped you steer the right course for this fight are friends and family. The fishing boats are the caring professions the radiographers, nurses, doctors, carers, volunteers and fundraisers who are around with us on this journey, and any others we may meet, to get us safely back to home ports. Finally the vibrant colours are to lift us, and remind us that a lot of fight comes from within. We must never give in and enjoy every day from this day forth.

Good luck with your journey of life.

The Radiographers all had fishing boats named after them in the picture. The picture will now hang in the waiting area of LA7 for all to see.
