Well, welcome to the inaugural blog! What a week! It disappeared quicker than Usain Bolt ran the 100 metres at the Olympics, and now we’re bathing in the afterglow of the Paralympics. Isn’t it brilliant how people overcome disability both physically and mentally? To perform at the highest level of their sport or discipline for their nations is, simply put, fantastic. Well done them. We have definitely seen some inspirational and uplifting moments from the competitors in both the opening ceremony and the ensuing events.

Possible future Paralympian?

To tie in our ethos of supporting young people (mainly with our educational visits) we supported a very special young lady from the Scottish Borders–Beth. Yvonne and Beth headed off to London to visit the swimming pool and check out the Paralympics vibe in London. More on the happy visitors in next week’s blog.

Tony Huggins-Haig’s artwork is heading off to new pastures!

Mike at AC Framing (www.acartandframing.co.uk) has taken a shine to my work, and has I think four galleries based in Yorkshire and Lancashire. My work is moving beyond the walls of the Art House Gallery in Kelso (www.arthouse-galleries.com). My first four limited editions have just been signed and a selection of my originals are with Mike. Why not take a look?

I’m pushing on with my commissions: both Big Boat (based on Her Majesty’s Jubilee day) and About on the Water (with the big boats in attendance). I’m also working on a harbour scene based on our Great Olympians, who made the nation feel much better about itself and proud to be British.

In all, I’m still painting snowmen, playing catch up with commissions, and trying get some paintings ready for AC Framing, who have several galleries in Yorkshire and Lancashire. Even now, I sing Christmas songs as I paint the snowmen. Gallery visitors must think I’m mad! (I probably am, ever so slightly.) Fortunately, madmen like myself make the world a great place–diverse and colourful. Recently I’ve customised several of the “snowmen” paintings by introducing collectors’ homes, favourite coloured scarves, phone boxes, post boxes, etc. into their pictures. A lovely young lady, Jess, now 8 (Happy birthday, Jess!) has her own snowman on her wall. Jess said: “It’s my best present ever, better than all my Christmas and birthday presents ever put together!” High praise indeed.

Outwith the gallery

I managed to escape the Gallery and spend a few hours flying this week. Not much of a summer, admittedly, but the old Savannah flew fantastically around the Borders, bringing me safely back to land after I completed several landings and take-offs.

We had several great friends and collectors pop in this week also, so it’s been a very good, if rather slow, week. The year has gone so quickly, but then again who’s complaining? Now I’m off to the studio to pick up my brush once more. Take care and stay lucky.
