Monday
Monday was characterised by mixed emotions. Yvonne had her last “good day” before her latest chemotherapy treatment—her sixth so far. Blood tests in the morning, followed by a refreshing trip outside. This is good for both Tony and Yvonne. Monday was Tony’s last full day with Yvonne this week.
Tuesday
Hopefully yesterday’s treatment was the last for a while. The morning began with some necessary administrative work, after which Tony and Yvonne headed off to the local hospital. Tony has been asked many times how Yvonne’s illness affects his artwork. The answer is simple: Tony’s artwork, which he lives and breathes for, is nonetheless secondary to Yvonne’s needs. Chemotherapy over, Tony and Yvonne headed out for some much-needed calories (for Yvonne, at least!).
Wednesday
Tony is really getting used to “guerilla painting” (painting in short bursts) now. At other times Tony can snatch a few minutes to work on write-ups and the small poems which accompany each of his works. Tony’s latest series of paintings, which capture the essence of his carefree childhood, is really coming along well, despite his busy life.
Thursday
On Thursday, Tony’s time was again spent looking after Yvonne and painting in the meantime. The illness is taking its toll. Yvonne is extremely strong, but it’s obviously tough on her nonetheless. Hopefully this is the last one for a while.
Friday
Sometimes Tony wishes that he was able to take Yvonne’s pain himself. However, all he can do is look after her while she endures it. As such, the Gallery was left in the capable hands of Rachel, Oran, and new recruit Linda.
Saturday
Again, most of Saturday was spent looking after Yvonne, whose ongoing treatment has left her somewhat ill. However, Tony was in the Gallery for an hour or so, even making time for lunch with friends. Despite all that currently rests on his shoulders, Tony still makes time for friends.
