Monday
Monday started very early: at 5 AM, in fact. With light streaming through the curtains, you have to ponder how long it will be before this good summer is back with us. In studio painting and pushing on with new Maine work; Tony is very happy with how it’s coming on.
Tuesday
A mixed day of admin and studio time. Tony did an inventory of his work in the Gallery, and counted which paintings are currently with other galleries.
A much needed administration day, overall. Still, Tony reports, when you’re in the painting zone that’s all you want to do: paint. Tony was lucky enough to get some painting done in the afternoon.
Wednesday
Another early start: 8 AM, this time. Tony was in the studio painting until 1 PM, when hunger engulfed him. Tony picked up some sandwiches and a healthy smoothie, remembering the days when he could eat anything he wanted without any unwanted weight gain. Even though he’s a very busy man, rushing around all day, Tony struggles to keep off the pounds.
Thursday
Thursday marked a relatively late start: 09:00. As ever, Tony kicked off his morning painting in the studio, working on his American pieces. He suspects that he’s capturing the feeling of calm that accompanied him in Maine. Yvonne, meanwhile, recovers at home, working on administrative tasks to keep herself busy. She is definitely improving. Tony is proud of her.
Tony’s youngest brother, Paul, and his family arrived on Thursday. Tony says it’s great to catch up, particularly with his wild nephew Thomas. All enjoyed a lovely evening together.
Friday
A typical day: in the studio in the morning, more time spent in the Gallery proper as the day marched on. Tony finished off some admin, then picked up the brushes again before closing time.
Saturday
Another typical Saturday began with great friends dropping by the Gallery to have a crack. The day flies by; soon enough it’s time to go. This time, it was a slightly more bitter end to the week. Oran MacKechnie, who has worked for us for the past two years, is leaving for university. It will be an amazing experience for him. Tony says that it has been an amazing privilege to have had Oran working for him. He has enjoyed watching Oran turn into a kind, considerate, intellectual young man. Oran is studying English at university, and Tony thinks that, either as a reporter or a writer, he will have a fantastic career. The day ends with hugs, gifts, and great memories. Oran is welcome back anytime. Tony takes great satisfaction in the knowledge that he had a part, however small, in Oran’s growth.
A wonderful, if slightly sad, way to finish off a long week. All the best, Oran.
