Monday
Monday marked a change to the daily schedule. Tony and Yvonne travelled to the Western at 13:40, avoiding the morning traffic. Later in the day Tony finished Nearly Home, which depicts a small boat battling through rough seas. The boat is flanked by boats of all shapes and sizes. The small boat represents Yvonne; the rough seas represent her battle with cancer. The other boats are the friends, family members, and medical staff who have supported Yvonne throughout her battle.
Tuesday
After a morning visit to the Western General, Tony travelled to the Selkirk airfield where he keeps his plane. The plane was due its annual MOT. Afterwards, Tony returned to his studio, where he finished Knocking the Doors, a commission for MSP Jim Hyme. Knocking Doors will hang in his office at the Scottish Parliament.
Wednesday
Poor weather makes for a long journey to the Western General, but the hospital visit itself goes well. Afterwards, Tony and Yvonne met with MSP Jim Hyme at the Scottish Parliament. Knocking the Doors now hangs in the office of this friendly, down-to-earth politician.
Thursday
Heavy rain makes for another slow, dreary visit to the Western General in Edinburgh, but Tony and Yvonne were in and out in no time at all. While there, they met Kev and Ann, who are also fighting cancer. They’re a really nice couple; Tony wishes them all the best.
Friday
Tony’s painting Almost There is finally on the wall at the Western General. Tony, humbled by its positive reception, hopes that his painting can inspire others and help them beat cancer. Today was also Yvonne’s last day of radiotherapy. Fingers crossed her battle is over. It has been a very hard slog.
Saturday
With Yvonne’s radiotherapy over, Tony spent most of his day in the studio, fielding visitors and friends. A lovely end to the week.
